Unified Mindfulness Looks at Sustainable Compassion Training
Time & Location
About the Event
The Unified Mindfulness system we have been working with over the last few years offers us a way to interpret, discuss and optimize any meditation system. We have enjoyed some brief classes where we applied it to teachings from Thich Nhat Hanh, Centering Prayer, and Tibetan Tonglen.
Now let's apply it to Lama John Makransky's Sustainable Compassion Teachings system. We will deepen our understanding of U.M. as we bring alive a powerful contemporary interpretation from Tibetan Buddhism.
During the Fridays of December the Friday morning weekly Unified Mindfulness class will be learning about Makransky's Tibetan Compassion practice system. This is a very accessible and complete system which John makes doable for the beginner. He draws out how the basic principles of sustainable compassion are present in all of humanity's time-honored spiritual traditions.
Lama John emphasizes that this is not a method of self-help where we "make" ourselves a better person or create compassion. He begins with teaching how to become receptive to the love and awareness which are already present in our lives. Then he works on deepening this receptivity, and extending it to others in ever-more inclusive ways.
