About the event
How did Buddhism spread to new regions and evolve new themes and meditation techniques?
We'll begin at the origin of the teachings with the Buddha in India 500 BC. We'll follow as it spread to Srii Lanka and Southeast Asia, Tibet, China. Enjoy the explosion of diversity and teachings across a millenium in India. From China we'll pursue the tradition to Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. We'll end with the present-day arrival in the global village.
Get a quick understanding of the main vehicles of Buddhism. Classical Buddhism, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. How did interest and concerns grow over time and whenever the teachings met new cultures? What was lost or gained? How did things change with the great leap to China? Where did Zen come from? How did it spread? What are some lesser known schools?
What is happening today as Buddhism meets science, medicine, consumerism, environmentalism, feminism, racism and the other great religious traditions of the Earth?
